And once you get quiet at work, everything starts to change. Not overnight, but little by little.
The Shift That Nobody Warns You About
At first it’s the small things. People don’t come to you as much. Conversations get shorter. You’re not as involved with everything anymore. You notice it, but you’re not sure what it means yet.
Then it becomes more obvious. You’re left out of certain conversations. You’re not included the same way. And people start interacting with you differently.
For a moment you question it. You wonder if you did something wrong. If you said something. If you should go back to how you were before.

What’s Really Happening
But the truth is, nothing is wrong. You just changed the level of access. And when people don’t have the same level of access to you anymore, their behavior towards you starts to change.
That’s not because you did anything wrong. It’s because they don’t know how to interact with this version of you yet.
The Real Question
So be honest—did things start changing when you got quiet? When you stopped over-explaining? When you stopped giving everyone access to your energy? When you stopped trying to be everything to everyone?
People get used to a certain version of you. The version that always shows up, always responds, always helps, always makes them feel comfortable. And when that version changes—even if it’s for the better, even if it’s for your own sanity—they don’t always handle it well.
But that doesn’t mean you were wrong to change. It means they’re still adjusting. And if they never adjust, that tells you everything you need to know.
You don’t have to go back to being who you were. You just have to keep going. The people who are meant to be in your life will adjust. The ones who don’t? They were never meant to stay.
