The only way to ensure that you are always living a soft life is to refuse to be rushed—and to never rush yourself. Refuse to let yourself hurry or be rushed by anyone in any situation. Be disgusted when someone tries to rush you.

Why You Rush When There’s No Reason To

If you grew up in a traumatic environment, a chaotic environment, an unstable environment where people were not emotionally regulated and there were always emergencies and disasters, you likely have the habit of rushing for no good reason. You rush, and then you end up tripping and hurting yourself. Or you rush and things get messed up. Your heart rate goes up, your nervous system gets dysregulated, you feel overstimulated, and it goes on and on.

That alone can disrupt anything you’ve done to create a soft life for yourself—because it starts inside you. You can’t have a soft life if you’re living life like you’re constantly in an emergency.

How to Live a Soft Life by Refusing to Rush

How to Break the Rushing Habit

Intentionally move a little bit slower every single day. Keep reminding yourself: ask that voice in your head, “Why am I rushing? What am I rushing for?” Have someone in your head yelling at you: “Girl, why are you rushing? Slow down! You don’t need to rush!”

Get this image in your head of yourself relaxing. You have to be intentional about relaxing—because eventually, relaxation becomes your default. People can tell in every movement you make that you are somebody who relaxes, because you give yourself permission to slow down.

The Connection Between Rushing and Wealth

Do you know who’s always rushing and running around like a chicken with its head cut off? Poor people. People who don’t have control over their lives. People who are controlled by others, controlled by a job, controlled by circumstances.

Do you know who is intentionally moving slow, has a calm nervous system, and is peaceful in any situation? Rich people. People who have a lot of money. Because that is the energy of relaxation and calm. It is wealth and riches.
