Learning how to take nothing personally will change your life. Because most of what people do has nothing to do with you.
Let Their Mood Be Theirs. Your Life Is Yours.
One of the biggest ways to lose your peace of mind is to give someone else yours. You pick up on a tone. You feel like you have to manage their mood. You catch yourself spiraling, trying to figure out what you did wrong.
That’s where you have to draw the line. Not because you don’t care, but because you recognize the boundary between you and other adults. You are not responsible for managing other people’s moods, other people’s expectations, or other people’s problems. There is one person you’re responsible for: you.

When People Don’t Like Your Boundaries, That Means They’re Working
When you stop bending yourself into knots to make everyone else happy, some people won’t like it. But that doesn’t mean the boundary is wrong—it means it’s working. People don’t always like it when you start changing. That’s okay. Let them feel how they feel. Your job is to focus on the “let me” part.
Let me manage myself. Let me focus on my life. Let me fix the things that I need to fix. Let their mood be theirs. Let their life be their life.
Practice the Pause
When someone comes at you with an attitude, when their energy feels off, when a text feels weird, when you start feeling like you need to police a grown adult’s feelings—pause. Say to yourself: “Let their mood be theirs.” And then say: “My life is fine.”
You can care about people without absorbing their problems. You can have compassion for someone who is in a bad mood or feeling sad without making it your job to fix it.
What to Remember
Other people’s reactions say everything about them and nothing about you. Their mood, their tone, their disappointment—that’s theirs to carry, not yours to manage. The moment you stop taking things personally is the moment you get your peace back. And that’s a power no one can take from you.
