God allows your heart to be hurt sometimes because it reveals something that you were not seeing before. Maybe He’s showing you someone’s true intentions, or maybe He’s showing you the way that someone was moving.

He’s removing someone from your life that was going to pull you away from the purpose that He has stored for you.

And sometimes the pain isn’t all about them. Sometimes it ends up being about you—about making you into the person you are meant to be called to be. Whether that’s building your faith, building your strength, or teaching you patience and peace.

Pain Has a Purpose

God knows that sometimes these experiences are meant to help you, to help others, teach you patience, teach you peace, and to teach you to depend on Him—not other people.

The most important part is this: once you finally grasp this and understand it, you stop asking yourself, “Why is this happening to me?” and start saying, “Thank you for this.”

Why God Allows Pain and How to Find Purpose in It

The Question That Changes Everything

I always use this tactic of asking myself in any situation: What is this trying to shape in me? What does God want to shape in me through these experiences or through these challenges that I’m facing?

Once you grasp that perspective, even in the middle of betrayal, heartbreak, disappointment—everything—you’ll still find peace. Not because it didn’t hurt. You have every right to feel any emotion. But because you finally understand God and understand that even in the painful moments, it’s to build you. It’s for your own good and for His purpose.

The Greatest Blessing

Sometimes the greatest blessing isn’t even what He gives you. It can sometimes end up being what He removes from your life. What feels like loss is often protection. What feels like rejection is often redirection. And what feels like pain is often preparation.
